OUR PROCESS

Because we only handle wood poles, we can specialize in each and every aspect of the production process. From timber selection, to treating, to delivery, we pride ourselves on performing every production and service detail that best that it

can be done.

Selection

PineTrees

Located in Southeast Georgia, at the heart of Southern Pine country, our location offers optimal growing conditions for exceptionally strong pine trees. The region's extended growing season contributes to the impressive height and straightness of our trees.

With a network of local landowners and timber producers, we have access to hundreds of thousands of acres of premium natural and plantation pine tracts. From this abundant supply, we carefully select only the highest-quality trees to produce our poles.

PROCESSING

PoleYard

Once timber is brought to the mill, it is inspected for damage, mold, rot and sweep. Accepted poles are then de-barked and peeled. While the pole is being being peeled, we apply AntiBlu® XP, which is a formulation designed to control sapstain, mold and decay fungi. Once peeled, the poles are referred to as “whitewood.” The whitewood is sorted by class and length and then conditioned in one of our seven dry kilns, which lowers the moisture content to between 20%-24%. Once removed from the dry kilns, the whitewood is inspected, framed, and branded. In addition to inspection at the plant level, we work with several independent inspection agencies. Our customers can choose which agency inspects your poles.

treatment

Framed whitewood is loaded onto railcars and pushed on trams into one of our two 110' treatment cylinders. The conditioned wood is very receptive to our preservation chemicals. We use quality wood preservatives from Arxada to produce our CCA poles. Treated to standards of the American Wood Preserving Association (AWPA), we offer poles in a wide range of retention levels to meet your specifications.

Inventory

We maintain an inventory of some 80,000+ poles at any point in time. Since our two facilities encompasses more than 350 acres, we always have a large number of poles on hand in case of emergencies. We typically produce 250 truckloads per week with the ability to ramp up as needed. BTC regularly supplies transmission poles sized 60′ – 100′ and distribution poles sized 25′ to 55′, Class 9 to H3. We offer 24-hour emergency service so that poles can be dispatched immediately in the event of a storm or power outage.
